Africa's Top 10 Universities

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-2015 list the best  universities on the African continent and are the only international university performance tables to judge world class universities across all of their core missions - teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The top African universities rankings employ 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available, which are trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.

  • Research: volume, income and reputation (worth 30%)
  • Citations: research influence (worth 30%)

  • International outlook: staff, students and research (worth 7.5 %)

Best subjects to study at SA universities

According to QS World University rankings, South African universities stand out for expertise in development studies, of which the University of Cape Town ranked 7th worldwide.
